First Lady

No one 'elects'  the wife of a President. Nor even of a Prime Minister. But they do seem to attract attention. Very often though they are quite worthy in their own right of being seen and heard. It does help if they exhibit qualities that can be admired, especially when they show aspects that are in and of themselves 'good'.  Insofar as we are made, naturally, as men and women, it is best when the First Lady is a lady and is clearly feminine.

America especially, as it is the default 'Premier' nation at the moment, gives a lot of media attention to its First Lady (ok, much is mealy-mouthed, 'Liberal' cant and nastiness) and it is clear that much can be made of the contrast between the current lass, Melania Trump, and her predecessor, the frumpy Michelle Obama.

Despite the clear attractiveness of the multi-lingual (and multicultural) Mrs Trump, she has the additional attraction of humility and devotion which befits such elevation. Melania Trump looks up to the Virgin Mary - the Ultimate First Lady, Mother of God and Queen of Heaven.

She is a Catholic woman and met the Pope recently. She deported herself well.  She dressed like a Catholic Lady attending a High Mass. Even up to a Mantilla. Nice touch.

It has been many years since a Catholic held court in the White House. The last ones were the Kennedys.  The First Lady then, too, had a firmly feminine air about her. The media back then drooled over her. Not so much today.  Kennedy was a left of centre chap while Trump is centre with a lean to the right.

This visit to the Vatican was one stop on a long 'first overseas trip' taken by the Trump regime. The Saudi Arabia  reception was in the news with Melania defying the expected kow-towing that the Obama regime displayed. She did not cover her head. For the Pope, yes: for the King of the House of Saud, no.

The Trumps went to Israel and to the wailing wall too. There they deported themselves deferentially.

Mrs Trump is full of surprises. She wrote to the Pope before the 'State Visit' to the Vatican, asking if it would be ok to visit a hospital while she was over in Italy.

On Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump surprised several kids at Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome with the “gift of tongue.”

When with the children, she spoke Italian.

OK, many a 'celebrity' or high-ranking person has visited kiddies in hospital, but for an American First Lady to talk to the children in a 'foreign' language - their language - is almost unprecedented.

But she speaks many languages. More than the ghetto-rap-speak of Mrs Obama.

According to Trump’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham, the First Lady spoke to these children directly in their native language — Italian.

“She went in the children’s [intensive care unit], which was very emotional,” Grisham said.
No other First Lady in American history has travelled abroad and used a secondary language to speak to locals — this is a first.

“She spoke to them in Italian, she signed bandages and she took lots of selfies,” Grisham added.

Now, as an Englishman and an Australian, I usually take little interest in the goings-on elsewhere, especially things  American. Hah! As if. As a Tavern Keeper, people are always talking in the bars and telling me things.

Mrs Trump, I am told,  speaks several other languages besides English and her native Slovenian. It’s been reported that she also speaks German, French, Italian and Serbo-Croatian.

Not just a pretty face.

There seems to be only scant American media coverage of the Trump expidition to foreign climes.  The Lefist media do not seem to want to report even common humanity from their non-socialist President, let alone take full advantage of having a splendidly feminine First Lady.
Especially a President that respects Christianity instead of bowing to Islam.

I can only (thankfully) wonder what a pig's ear of the job that Mrs Clinton's 'First Gentleman' would have made of the job. (That is no gentleman: that is a cad).

America -part of it - looked forward to the first female President. But they had been upstaged by the British who now has its second female PM. The first of course was Maggie Thatcher. And who can forget her easily forgettable and in the background 'first chap', Denis.

He was a chap's chap. In the old school manner of course, although he did have his moments.
He seems to have made an impression on the last President, Obama, but Denis could afford to fool around while Obama could do little else.

Melania, has little in the way of competition or indeed anyone to emulate. There have been some quite feminine foreign first ladies, of course, in Europe. Not that they were appreciated by past incumbents of the office.
I don't think Michelle Obama cared much for the French anyway.

But enough of that. Let me leave you with some images while I go an pull a few pints.

And with the First First Lady, the quiet Jewish girl. (As portrayed, so beautifully.)
Everyone's First Lady

100,000 Pages on His File

Our Oz police are ruthlessly efficient - in writing reports and making files. The inquest on people who died in the Lindt Cafe terrorist attack in Sydney revealed the almost horrifying small fact that  the 'Moderate Muslim'  who perpertrated the attack was so well known to the police, psychiatrists and Magistrates that his file was taller than I am.  Yet he was still out there roaming the streets like the ordinary law-abiding citizens. Even staunch chaps like m'self who also had a big fat file once. (but more of that later)

Now, if only he had tweeted a phrase or two 'insulting' muslims, or - horrors - posted to facebook some innocuous remark, he would be in the pokey

It was mentioned by someone in the Tavern today that only a smart, intelligent, empowered woman like Deputy Commissioner Burns (our Anti-Terrorism chief !!!) could  be so meticulous in her efforts to be tidy. And sure enough......

This 'thrust into high position' woman seems to be highly competetive,  faffing about in charge of the seige and reserving her decisions until every last known bit of 'intelligence' was in before making a decision, with her main competition  being Christine Nixon, who went out to a fancy restaurant dinner while people burned to death in Victoria's bush fire a few years back.

The mind boggles.

Where do they find these incompetents? They must be running out of parachutes by now. Heavy drop ones in Nixon's case.

And while the inquest lumbers on producing many more pages for the file, a terrorist attack in Manchester diverts attantion to the other side of the world.

No doubt when the smoke clears and medals are handed out, the inquest for the poor souls killed there will show that a 'moderate muslim' that the cops had 'had their eye on', was the cause and his file would be friggin' enormous too.

And the magistrates and psychiatrists?
“Why were the Magistrates who released Monis not called to give evidence?” NSW Police Association Acting President Tony King slams the Lindt Siege inquiry as a ‘witch hunt’.
I do have some sympathy for the copper on the beat. His time is wasted on trivia and report-writing, while the fat-cats above launder their political sheets. The shrinks are in no position to incarcerate, unlike the Magistrates, and their reports were accessed. It is there on Wiki already.....
On 29 May, (2015) lawyer Nazir Daawar said that he found Monis "a smart guy, but a very evil smart guy". Daawar refused to represent Monis over the Afghan letters and went so far as to say "he would have urged police to shoot him with 'no negotiation'". Dawaar had served in Afghanistan and demanded that Monis plead guilty over the letters he had written to families of soldiers that were killed there.Conversely, lawyer Chris Murphy told the court he thought Monis was "not very intelligent" and a "broken man" who "cried like a baby" when recounting alleged mistreatment in Silverwater jail. All of the lawyers spoke of Monis' attention-seeking behaviour.
At the end of the first week, a picture has emerged of "a complex, disturbed individual desperate for recognition and status but completely lacking the skills or achievements to bring that dream to life". Gormly summarised that "Monis could be plausible, courteous and controlled, but he was also almost entirely consumed in his own self-importance. ... By 2014 he owned no property, was in debt, and had developed no employment skills. His attempts to develop a personal, religious following ... had failed. ... He was facing future serious criminal charges... he had made no public impact of note on the Australian political scene". Monis may have felt that he had "little left to live for".
Several folk in the bars had things to say. Bernard for one was quite incensed. I am left, along with many other to take the words of my friend Starr as being as close to accurate as brevity allows and as one is allowed to see.  Starr said:
Everyone, please remember the following protocol in relation to the Manchester atrocity:
1. This has nothing to do with Islam.
2. The person involved was a mentally ill 'lone wolf'.
3. Those who object to points 1 and 2 are racist islamophobic radical extreme right wing bigots.
4. Change Facebook profile to flag of inflicted country.
5. Light some candles, hold a vigil and go on a peace march.
6. Wait for the next slaughter to happen.
7. This is Trump's fault.
8. Create a hashtag in support of Muslims who will be the victim of racist attacks for this.
9. Repeat.
Points one and two seem to encapsulate the 'Official' attitude.

Even as the conversations developed, the TV news in the Oz room was full of 'advice' from those same police forces, to 'report anything suspicious'. But don't you dare mention 'Muslim' or you will be arrested for Islamophobia and/or Racism.  Best advice would be to choose your words carefully lest you are the one that falls under the suspicious eye of the  police filing clerks. It is not a surprise that the shrinks all steered clear of mentioning that Monis' entire life has been indoctrinated by islamic hatreds and carnage-demanding.

But Bernard Gaynor gave us the good oil on our Oz inquest.
Martin Place:
the greatest domestic intelligence failure in Australian history

The Martin Place siege report is an alarming read.
That’s not because of what it identified, which should give every Australian goose bumps anyway, but because it has actually covered up what should be described as the greatest domestic intelligence failure in Australian history.

There are only three sentences in this report that you need to read to understand this. They can be found on page vii:

“Monis was well known to security and police agencies. He had been investigated a number of times and successfully convicted on 12 postal charges. He had met with police and ASIO representatives on numerous occasions and these agencies, along with others,
held hundreds of thousands of pages of information on him.”

These sentences demonstrate clearly, concisely and in no uncertain terms that the government spies knew about Monis. His collective file, as detailed in the report, is hundreds of thousands of pages long.
If it was only 100,000 pages long, (as my title suggested) it would be at least 11 metres thick. Oops, my mistake. Each page is probably printed ‘double-sided’ to help ‘save’ the environment, so make that a more modest 5.5 metres.

Still that’s pretty sizable.
But it did no good at all.
In fact, the New South Wales police would have been better served by this file if they had used it to build themselves a bullet-proof barricade against the non-Islamic, Islamic State supporter. Or maybe they could have set fire to it and tried to smoke him out.

Alas, however, Michael Thawley, AO, the Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and Blair Comley, PSM, the Secretary of the New South Wales Premier and Cabinet, would have us believe that there was no failure in the fact that these agencies held more than 100,000 pages on Man Haron Monis, even though not one of them identified that he was terror threat.

On page 52 of this report, they asked themselves a rhetorical question:

“A further question is whether the judgments about the threat he posed were reasonably made at the time.”

I say rhetorical because they had already answered it up at the front of the report on page iv. Here it is:

“Overall, the Review has found that the judgments made by government agencies were reasonable and that the information that should have been available to decision-makers was available.”
And a page later, reflecting on the assessments made about Monis:
“None of the results of these investigations, or the continuous assessment of information related to Monis in the intervening periods, provided any indication he had the intention to commit an act such as the Martin Place siege.”
Seriously.
Are we really meant to believe that a forest could be cut down so reports could be written on Monis because he wasn’t a threat?
And are we really meant to believe that some guy could clock up 100,000 plus pages of reporting and every security, intelligence and policing agency in the nation could still determine that he wasn’t dangerous or a priority?
Obviously, something somewhere has gone very badly wrong in the intelligence assessments.
In the week before the siege, 18 complaints were made to counter-terrorism agencies about Man Haron Monis. ASIO checked those reports and found nothing to worry about, even though Monis was on bail for helping to murder his wife, hung out with Hizb ut Tahrir and had just lost a court case where he was found guilty of sending offensive, menacing and harassing letters to the families of dead Aussie diggers. To carry out his crime, Monis had to find their addresses. That’s not a comforting thought.
Yet no alarm went off anywhere in early December and alarms are still not going off now.
However, two lives and almost 100 more pages of reporting into Monis later, the sirens should be blaring out a loud warning and flares should be sent high into the sky. It is an embarrassing fact that 18 members of the general public identified that Monis was a terror threat a week out from the Martin Place siege, yet the entire national security apparatus failed to come to the same conclusion when it was brought to the professionals’ attention.
That is a failure in any language.
It is unforgiveable that the Martin Place siege report has absolved the intelligence and security agencies for what is a clear failure.
And it is unforgiveable that the intelligence and security agencies are so clearly failing because they are not falling for a well-planned deception campaign.

They are deceiving themselves because political-correctness has destroyed logic and moral courage.
The rot, as it always does, starts at the top.
The former boss of ASIO, David Irvine, gave a public address in August last year. It was one of his last public statements in his role. And it contained the following gems about the threat we face:
“Those involved seek motivation, legitimacy and justification for their use of violence (directed against “non-believers” or, more simply, anyone they perceive as being against them and their beliefs) from a self-righteous, twisted and, I suspect, hatred-filled interpretation of one of the world’s great and enriching religions – Islam. We have seen not dissimilar phenomena or distortions in other great religions over the centuries.”
Yes, folks, this was the Head of our 'Intelligence' Service.
and

“These terrorist organisations, which young Australians are joining, are willing to sacrifice young brain-washed souls in the name of a distorted, hate-filled interpretation of Islam.”
In plain language.... how dare you Oz citizens be scared shitless and witless, blaming these poor, innocent contributors to our rich and vibrant multicultural society. Islamists, mohammedans, muslims, whathaveyou, are lovely people. You though are nasty bigots.

and

“In my experience the overall leadership of the community of Muslim Australians in dealing with these issues, always in their own quiet way, has been outstanding. In this sense, the Australian Muslim community has made, and will continue to make, its own valuable contributions to our national character, our national livelihood, our national security and to our national cohesion.”

and

“Let me reiterate, we are not fighting Islam, in Australia or anywhere else.”
Now for those who might think that I placed an undue focus on female half-wits in positions of power, please see this a 'balance'.

But..... he is right of course. We are not fighting Islam. Islam is fighting us. We sit on our arses blaming the poor sap down the street who pays his  taxes to feed the likes of Irvine, Burns and Nixon et al. We call him a bigot.
I particularly like the fact that the Director General of ASIO has paid tribute to the ‘quiet’ way Muslims have dealt with these issues. Silent is the word I might have used, and it would not be a compliment. I also can’t help but chuckle at the fact that this community has been praised by David Irvine for its contribution to national security. But at least he’s acknowledging the reason ASIO has grown in size so rapidly over the last decade.
Australia’s Islamic community is the best thing that ever happened for an empire builder at ASIO.

The only conclusion any ASIO intelligence officer listening to this speech could come to is that he’d lose his job if he made a critical assessment about the nature of Islamic belief on terrorism. He’d probably also conclude that logic is irrelevant at ASIO HQ.

David Irvine admits that there is a violent strain of Islam. And then he goes on to state that we are not at war with Islam. At all. Not even with the distorted, hate-filled interpretation that even he recognises exists.

Au contraire, my friend. That ‘violent, hate-filled’ ‘distortion’ has declared war on Australia. And that is why Australian jets are dropping bombs in Iraq.
The very fact that Irvine makes this concession about Islam means that he has a duty to ask the next question: is there something inherent to the nature of Islam that leads to the creation of the Islamic States and al Qaedas and Hezbollahs and Hizb ut Tahrirs and Jaish al Mahdis and any other number of violent groups?
To answer that, you must understand Mohammed. And if you read Mohammed’s life, then you will quickly come to the conclusion that the answer is yes. Mohammed was violent and his followers are too. Any student of history can attest to this.
Instead, Irvine goes on about an enriching religion without being able to offer any logical justification for his claim.
Like I said, logic and moral courage have gone. There is no starker contrast than this:
If you work in an intelligence agency and decide that you want to be a woman, everyone will take you at your word and believe that you are female, regardless of all the evidence to the contrary.
But if you work in an intelligence agency monitoring a terrorist who states that they are Muslim, quotes from the Koran and then behaves in exactly the same manner as Mohammed, then everyone will dismiss the terrorist’s words and actions and try and find some other ‘deeper’ meaning for them.
And that is why ever larger intelligence agencies produce hundreds of thousands of pages of reporting that don’t help anyone.

Fairy tales are believed and reality is ignored. It is as simple as that.
Unfortunately, the future is likely to show more of the same.
The Martin Place siege report also makes the following alarming finding:
“Monis was assessed by ASIO in early December 2014. On the basis of the information available at the time, he fell well outside the threshold to be included in the 400 highest priority counter-terrorism investigations. He was only one of several thousand people of potential security concern.”
There you have it. There are at least 400 dudes having coffee out there right now that intelligence and security agencies believe are more dangerous than Man Haron Monis.
And there are several thousand more just like him.

ASIO is responsible for assessing domestic security threats and it only has just over 1,600 staff. As such, it is impossible for ASIO to adequately monitor this number of threats. The only assessment that can be made with any level of confidence is that an attack could be planned and carried out without any security or intelligence agency knowing about it. Actually, we have seen that even if the security agencies know about the Man Haron Monises, they can carry out their attacks anyway.
I had to fill many tankards and moved down the bar, so if you want to hear the rest of what Bernard had to say (all useful comment) just go to the link.

Meanwhile, I mused over the lessons to be learned. We know it well.

The Powers that Be are NOT on your side.

Once when we went to war, be it against a national enemy or a civil scourge, we would claim God to be on our side. Hmmmm. My Supplier wants you on His side.

It is essential in this great battle against a demonic enemy that we do what is right. In which case, first rule is, love the sinner. Yes, we may hate the sin of Islam, and we should, but the mohammedan is in Thrall.

It is a difficult conundrum.

But that does not excuse our public servants. They should be sent down.

Oh yes. That big fat file of mine. I didn't know I had even a slim one. Well not true. I figured I had one but had no idea of its size. It was kept in the old KGB HQ in Dzerzinski Street with the jails underneath.

A friendly soviet agent  in Melbourne at the end of the cold war told me all about my file. It seems it was quite thick.

Drink up. Strengthen that right arm.  It may have to lift a file or two of your own one day, kept up to date by a police clerk. Mz Burns herself perhaps.

Good, Stupid, Bad.

I would hazard that everyone has been all three at some point (and more), with many getting 'stuck' in one mode or another. One predominates but rarely drives out all vestige of the others. Does the mafia pimp who helps an old lady across a busy street, show pity and helpfulness as he goes on his way to beat up a prostitute who isn't 'working' hard enough?  One wants to hope so but we must guard against being stupid about it. Does the nurse who joins a rescue ship to help refugees, show compassion and courage ( I hope so also) while obliging some poor taxpaying saps in another country carry an undue burden and provide yet more pimps in, say, Rotherham, who will rape some poor child? Is she stupidly blind to consequence?  Is her compassion false or is it stolen? Who talked her into it? Who is sufficiently un-stupid to consider?

Some in the Tavern today were so. They considered. They discerned and discriminated.  They brought some news of the disaster that is happening in the Mediterranean and the bad people behind it. It was a depressing exercise in soul searching and not a little alarming to consider just how easy it is for 'do-good' types to be deceived by the bad.

Been there, you see. Done that. One gets to an age when one can look back and see the stupid we were, and the bad. We are grateful for being put back on a path to Good. Forgive us for we know not what we do much of the time. Is the world becoming insane?

I pulled pints for folk to stare into as they listened.

First up was Nicholas Farrell.  He was swiftly followed by a lady close to the PTB.

The rescue racket
Are aid agencies colluding with people smugglers?
What is happening in the 300-mile stretch of sea between Sicily and Libya, day in and day out — in other words, what ‘we’ are doing there — is beyond reasonable doubt insane.
A sane person would assume that the 181,436 migrants (a new record) who made it by sea to Italy last year had done so under their own steam in flimsy fishing boats and dinghies at least some of the way across the Mediterranean.

This, after all, is the message aid agencies and governments put out.

In fact, every one of those 181,436 was picked up by EU and non-government aid-agency vessels off the Libyan coast just outside the 12-mile territorial limit, then ferried across to Europe.

The people-smuggler boats — more often than not these days dangerously unseaworthy rubber dinghies — chug out towards the 12-mile limit, send out a distress signal, and Bob’s your uncle.
Nearly all the migrants arriving in Italy are young men from West Africa, not refugees. They have the cash for a ticket on a smuggler boat (€1,500, give or take) so are not destitute.

That’s getting on for £300 million in ticket sales last year.

West African migrants are big business.

The justification for the presence of the EU and aid-agency fleets in the southern Mediterranean is to save lives, and in the case of the EU’s Operation Sophia to arrest people smugglers and destroy their boats. If the fleets did not patrol, there would be far fewer deaths, because far fewer migrants would dare to put to sea. There would be far fewer people smugglers. Yet thanks to this enormous rescue fleet, the Italian interior ministry expects 250,000 more migrant boat people.

The madness does not end here. There’s reason to suspect that the people smugglers are actually in direct contact with aid agencies, which is why they are so often first on the scene to rescue migrant boats — and this is a criminal offence.
Last week, the chief prosecutor in Catania, Carmelo Zuccaro, revealed details of an investigation he has just begun amid growing suspicions of collusion between the agencies and the people smugglers. Where is the line, he asked, between aid and facilitation?
He told Italian MPs: ‘The NGOs often work near to the coast and territory of Libya. We have calculated that in the last four months of 2016, 30 per cent of the rescues which landed at Catania were carried out by these organisations. In the first months of 2017, that percentage has grown to at least 50 per cent.’

This Sicilian judge said the country with the most aid agencies operating in the central Mediterranean was Germany, with five organisations and six vessels (one costing £350,000 per month to keep at sea — over £4 million a year).
‘We must solve the problem of where the money comes from to sustain such high costs — who are the sources of this finance?

We shall be doing checks on the NGOs who bring migrants into our jurisdiction. It is notable that the NGO ships are nearly always the nearest to the location of the emergency.
‘It’s not a crime to invade the waters of a foreign country to pick them up. What is punishable is bringing them to Italy without respecting the rules of engagement… vessels should take migrants to the nearest port, which is certainly not Italy.’ The nearest safe port, in fact, would be in Tunisia.
Last month the EU’s border agency, Frontex, also accused aid agencies of activities which ‘help criminals achieve their objectives at minimum cost, strengthen their business model by increasing the chances of success’.
Its annual report says the smugglers now hardly bother to telephone the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Rome to be picked up, preferring to call aid-agency vessels directly. The reason is obvious: these people will not arrest them or confiscate their vessels.

Since June 2016, many boats have been rescued near the Libyan coast by aid-agency vessels ‘without any prior distress call’, suggesting the rendezvous has been pre-arranged. In Italy, the lynch-mob principle of ‘he must have done it’ is enough to secure convictions, so prosecutions are a distinct possibility.
But the only way to solve the migrant crisis — as the Frontex report says — is to stop all these West Africans getting to Libya. This would ensure too that the aid-agency humanitarians are not led into further temptation.
And who is to stop this insanity?  This stupidity? This subborning of compassion to serve the mad and the bad, the wicked and the dealers in death? I do not think it us useful to look to the Euopean Union to stop the rackets, the deaths, the corruption and the lies. Nicholas was given some support in his assessment by Janice Atkinson MEP, a lady who one can imagine went to the EU Parliament with good intention. She spoke up from a dark corner near the fireplace.

Nicholas Farrell is absolutely right that the aid agencies are colluding with the people smugglers.
I sit on the EU’s LIBE committee – human rights, migration, etc, where I continually raise the problems of the ‘human rights industry’ and, having visited many of the Greek migrant camps and been to the Calais jungle on numerous occasions,

I have seen this collusion at first hand.

I have confronted the UNHCR, various aid agencies and Doctors Without Borders, discussed the people trafficking with the migrants and MEPs who refuse to listen

From Mrs Merkel’s EPP MEPs, UKIP’s partners, the Five Star Movement to the extreme left, they all believe that migrants are refugees and not economic migrants. The young, middle class women from Five Star openly state that ‘we should build a bridge from Africa to the EU’.

The EPP are no better. When I call for the aid agencies to lose their EU cash, I am treated with disdain and called heartless. When I call on the cash to be redirected to destroying the people smugglers and their boats, they raise their eyes to the hemicycle’s rafters, where I rather suspect they would like to hang me.

And the evidence of collusion - and worse - pours in.  Andrea Vogt gave it. And it is depressingly familiar. The ones who started out on that Good path are sometimes diverted into the swamps and pits and dank places where evil lies.

Priest among 68 arrests as Italy cracks open mafia ring running migrant centre
Tens of millions of euros in public funds destined for migrant reception centres in Italy have allegedly been syphoned off in one of the biggest mafia scams of recent times, it has been claimed.

More than 68 people were arrested in the dawn raids carried out by Italian authorities on Monday – including the parish priest and the head of the Catholic association managing one of Europe’s largest migrant and asylum seeker reception centres in the Calabrian town of Isola di Capo Rizzuto.
“The welcome centre was the cash machine for the ‘Ndrangheta clan,”

said Carabinieri General Giuseppe Governale.
The sting, dubbed "Operation Jonny," is said to have involved more than 500 law enforcement agents, many of whom are believed to have worked long periods undercover to secretly record and expose the alleged infiltration of the Arena family, one of the ferocious 'Ndrangheta crime syndicate clans, into the lucrative area of migrant management.
The Isola di Capo Rizzuto migrant and asylum seeker reception centre on the Calabrian coast near Crotone is one of the largest such reception points in Europe, capable of hosting up to 1,600 people.

Of the more than 103 million euros in EU and Italian funds directed to the centre between 2006 and 2015, approximately 36 million euros were syphoned off by the Arena family or otherwise misused, Italian police have said.
The head of the Catholic Misericordia association that operates the centre, Leonardo Sacco, is accused of helping the clan land contracts for catering services at Isola Capo Rizzuto as well as at a centre on the island of Lampedusa, two of first places in Italy where migrants are brought onto European soil after being rescued at sea.

The skimming resulted in a scarcity of food and sub-standard meals, prosecutors maintain.
“There was never enough food and we even filmed the quality of food: it was the kind of food we usually give to the pigs,” said the Catanzaro prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, one of Italy’s toughest anti-mafia magistrates.
“There were companies set up purposely for food service and with that money they bought theatres, cinemas, apartments, land, cars and luxury boats.”
Even the town’s parish priest, Father Edoardo Scordio, is accused of taking €132,000 (£110,000) in 2017 alone for services related to “spiritual assistance” at the centre.
Highly paid dupe?

Yet National Anti-Corruption Authority czar Raffaele Cantone said he believed the operation may have “only revealed the tip of the iceberg.”
It takes Christ to forgive such sin

About 175,000 people are currently housed in Italy’s reception centres, where the state provides food, clothing, language lessons, health care and a small amount of pocket money. More than 45,000 people have arrived this year alone, a 44 per cent increase from the same period in 2016. But, as part of their investigation, the Crotone prefecture said it appeared the official number of people recorded at the centre was inflated so that management could skim funding from the state for “ghost” migrants.
The Arena clan had already been busted once back in 2012 after police seized €350 million worth of assets, including one of Europe’s largest wind farms.
Such vast sums of 'other people's money' that are taxes and duties and imposts etc levied by Governments are aimed with such care that it makes trickle-down economics looks respectable. The opportunities for graft, corruption and theft, not to mention the Destruction of Souls is immense. The compassionate are duped; the stupid go blindly where their 'betters' direct them: the bad flourish.

Weep into your ales.

Tip a little water into your wine.

Resistance

We are all allowed freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and freedom of opinion, as long as we say, think, and believe exactly what we are told... and if gay sex kills people and destroys children, we must not admit it.
Thank you Moira. Your words are true. I poured her favourite tipple and listened to the tale of an old lady who had her say - and suffered the outrageous slings and arrows.

All around in what was Hilary's Village (thank goodness she has departed, stage left) we are assailed by the bad, the ugly and even the 'do-gooders' who are determined to make heroes of those who deserve no applause, no raised glasses. And it takes ordinary folk to stand up and be counted, speak out and object.

People like Sally. An elderly lady for whom many a glass was raised in the Tavern today.

We are reaching the point where Hollywood, in its efforts to make the sick, lame and lazy into the new victim-hero, will soon be featuring the Orc General as a poor creature maligned by the society that brought him to being. He will claim that hobbits were bigots and the people of middle-earth ganged up on him instead of the other way around. Audiences of snowflakes will be made to weep and leave the cinemas ready and primed to protest.

Orcophobics, the lot of them.

But they make do - the Hollywood mob - with homosexuals, transgendereds, male sporting stars who wear dresses, and we are supposed to be sorry for them, defend them and castigate anyone with a clearer vision. We need to resist.

So to the little old lady: then to the push-back at Presidential level as Matt shows how to turn tables.
Elderly woman, a MassResistance activist,
ignites town and region by questioning “gay” flag outside church – and standing her ground.
Town of Carlisle, MA, goes into hysteria over her letter to the editor
An inspiration for the rest of us!
Most people think they can’t make a difference, or are too timid to try. Here is an example of what just one person can do to fight back!
Sally Naumann, a long time resident of Carlisle, wasn't intimidated by the TV cameras.
An elderly woman in ultra-liberal Carlisle, Mass. had the nerve to publicly criticize the “gay” flag outside of a church in the center of town. She caused such an inflamed reaction that it was reported in Boston’s NBC-TV evening news. But she’s not backing down -- which inflames the leftist reactionaries even more!

The Unitarian church in the center of Carlisle, Mass.
Sally Naumann, an 85-year-old resident of Carlisle and a longtime MassResistance activist, had had enough. She was very upset that the Unitarian Church in the center of town is flying a “gay” rainbow flag outside. She is distressed because people she knows have died of “gay”-related diseases. She strongly believes the homosexual lifestyle should not be promoted.
Interestingly, for nearly 25 years Sally and her husband had been members of that Unitarian Church in Carlisle, and she was also co-chairman of the Parish Committee. But a few years ago, while speaking at a Sunday service, she raised concerns about the church’s promotion of the homosexual lifestyle. For simply saying that, the church leaders declared her to be “unwelcoming”. After a “hearing”, Sally was banned from the church and told that if she came back they would call the police!
Sally is a delightful lady, as well as fearless. In 2005, she went undercover at the homosexual GLSEN conference at Brookline High School. She picked up a copy of the extremely pornographic and disgusting “Little Black Book” that was being given to kids. It caused such outrage that even Gov. Mitt Romney went on television to distance his administration from it.
A simple letter to the editor started a war in town!
On April 28, 2017, Sally wrote a letter to the editor to the local Carlisle Mosquito newspaper. They published it at the end of all the others, on page 22, near the back of the paper. Here’s what it said:
 To the Editor:
One of the saddest vistas I know is that of the beautiful rainbow flying as a flag to welcome and encourage the extremely dangerous behavior of homosexuality. Each time I go through the center of my town of Carlisle, I see such a flag and my heart cries out—why, Why?
Indeed, why is this flag being used to speak well of homosexuality and encourage the behavior? Where is the caring for people who for one reason or another have gotten into this behavior? And homosexuality is a behavior; no one is born homosexual.
Where is the truth? Where is the help for such people? It seems they are only helped down the garden path to some of the worst diseases known to man. Just look at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website for information as to how devastating homosexual behavior actually is. Then look at pfox.org for personal stories where ex-homosexuals speak out.
Knowing how many have contracted HIV and AIDs and even died as a result of homosexual behavior leaves me wondering why people would promote such behavior--—let alone churches such as the Unitarian Church and the United Church of Christ.
Sally J. Naumann
It’s a very good letter. It’s very clear, straightforward, and succinct.
Sally’s letter got attention, that’s for sure!
In the next issue of the Carlisle Mosquito (May 5) there were nine angry letters attacking her (and none supporting her). Even by the low standards of a “liberal” town (that prides itself on being “upper class”), the response was pretty unhinged.
There were the usual angry epithets: Sally’s letter was called “hate speech”, “disinformation”, “rancid”, and “ignorant” – etc.
Several letter writers said that despite the First Amendment, Sally’s letter should not have been allowed to be printed. (This is a common totalitarian refrain of the Left.) Letter writers said that Sally’s letter might cause suicides or violence because of “the destructive, homophobic views represented in that letter.”
One letter writer said Sally’s letter is bringing “fear” to the community and said that she is now locking the doors of her house. Some letters listed past acts of terrible violence that were likely caused by sentiments like Sally’s.

And of course there’s the blatant hypocrisy: The same letters that said that Sally’s views should be excluded from the newspaper and not be tolerated, were then calling for a climate of “tolerance and inclusion.”
Most of this is, on its face, irrational.
That’s because Sally really got to them! The town’s liberals could not deal with Sally’s facts and logic. Instead, their letters were calculated to foment as much anger and hysteria as possible.
The attacks on Sally continued in the May 12 issue, with seven more angry letters.  Sally was called “homophobic”, “hateful”,  “intolerant”, “prejudiced”,  “libelous”, and “malicious”. Her views were compared to Vladimir Putin, Breitbart.com and Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, and Nazi Germany. Whew! We can’t wait till next week.
In the May 5 issue of the newspaper, next to the letters, was a scathing editorial aimed at Sally and her letter. In particular, the editorial explored whether Sally’s facts and opinions should be banned from the newspaper in the future.
Sadly, the editorial shows the level of nonsense and shallow thinking that America’s journalist class has lowered itself to. It stated that the newspaper’s staff
“believes it is of supreme importance to be sensitive to the concerns of marginalized populations.”
(Not conservatives, clearly.)
But Orcs definitely.
It admitted that in past years the paper had run letters similar to Sally’s without a problem. But now the community must be protected from these views. That’s because, the editors say:
[T]here are times when a position becomes so repulsive it is no longer suitable for discussion, and perhaps advocacy of homosexuality as a sickness has migrated into that territory.
You may want to re-read this courageous old lady's letter and check for 'repulsiveness'.
So the truth of the medical consequences has no real value. And the message is that anyone who agrees with Sally can forget writing any letters.
One of the letters in the paper was from a local moonbat political group saying that people should fight Sally by putting out rainbow flags everywhere in town. They announced they would be putting hundreds of small rainbow flags outside the Unitarian Church for locals to take. Within a few days, there were lots of rainbow flags across town.
Sally's out-of-town friends retailated in support. Hahaha. Leaving a copy of a book lying around.

Save the Orc. Donate to the Orc rehabilitation and Local Government advocacy position today.
Make no mistake. This is a psychological strategy to make people in town feel that everything is overwhelmingly stacked in one direction – and any more “outbursts” like Sally’s are useless, and will be dealt with harshly.
Sally didn’t care, though. She had made her point.
NBC-TV in Boston jumps in -- pays Sally an unannounced visit
 Sartorially elegant American TV reporter.
Over the next week the hysteria over this continued to spread beyond Carlisle. On May 10, NBC-TV in Boston jumped in to cover this story.
Not surprisingly, this was not a “friendly” interview from Sally’s standpoint. The television crew did not call Sally’s home first; they just showed up at her door unannounced. That has to be a pretty unnerving experience. But Sally took it all in stride, made her points very well, and stood her ground. After that, they interviewed local liberals.
There seems to be an undercurrent of support for Sally. Sally told us that when she went to the Post Office one day this week, she came out to find that someone had put some flowers in her car door handle.
On Saturday, Sally received a handwritten letter in the mail:
Thanks for the courageous letter to the Mosquito.
Having lived for 30 years in Carlisle and had two children go through the school system, I'm confident the push-back from the mentioned parties will be significant. Thankfully, we no longer live there.
We have a feeling there will be more and more, now that Sally has publicly stood up!
Good for Sally. Silencing critics by sheer brute force by editors can be countered. If this one old lady can do this much by herself, imagine what you can do! We hate to say this, but she has more courage than probably 90% of pro-family people. That’s got to change.

The LGBT movement (and the Left in general) knows it cannot win through normal discourse and factual challenges. The dominance of their absurd ideology depends on intimidating everyone into cowering in fear and not speaking up. Every time you do it, it breaks it down a little more. Eventually their dominance will collapse. That’s what Sally has done in Carlisle, and that’s why they’re so angry.

Sally told us that after this initial furor has died down, she plans to write another letter to the editor elaborating further on her points. That should be interesting. We’ll keep you posted!

If someone cares to wheel her chair into the Tavern I shall plie her with good Grace.  To get any traction against the madness one has to get the TV and press involved. It won't be pretty but it will give a chance to exposing the rat-bags, do-gooders who do-bad, the scared rabbits and perhaps send out a call to passing wizards and hobbits.

Another way to overcome the enemies of reasonableness was suggested by Matt Walsh. He can be a very funny lad sometimes, but always with a serious intent. Even if that is just Orc-exposing. But no, he has some plan and strategic options for Donald Trump in mind. Hold your glasses.
To silence his critics once and for all, Donald Trump must come out as a woman
Political pundits have written volume upon volume explaining what Trump can do to calm the storm, get the media off his back, and reestablish control. Needless to say, all of their prescriptions are wrong. Their prescriptions are always wrong. Political pundits, like psychics and weathermen, are essentially paid to be wrong. So, let’s ignore their analyses and focus on real solutions for a change.
I have devised a plan that would not only accomplish everything I outlined in the first sentence, but automatically
make Donald Trump a cultural hero and icon.
He would morph from the most hated politician in America to the most beloved. Or, at the very least, the hatred would be tempered and those who hate him would have to be very careful in how they express it, as opposed to now, when they can just come right out and accuse him of performing oral sex on Vladimir Putin.
The plan is very simple: President Trump must come out as a woman. A cisgendered Trump will continue to be reviled by the Left and despised by the media — even if he stops inflicting wounds on himself — but a transgendered Trump would be playing in an entirely different field by an entirely different set of rules.
Truly, the only solution I can see is for Donald Trump
to transition into Donna Trump.
She will not get this kind of advice from her advisers in the White House or her surrogates on television. The responsibility has been left to me, and, as a patriot, I feel compelled to fulfill it.
Let me outline the four great advantages to my plan:
  (1) Trump would rise to the top of liberalism’s Victim Pyramid.
Victimization is the currency of the Left. To be a victim is to have power. The more victimized you are, the more insulated you are from criticism.
But there is a hierarchy of victimization on the Left. At the moment, Trump is at the bottom — that is, the least victimized, thus the most subject to criticism — because he identifies as a cisgendered, heterosexual, white, Republican, Christian male.
The fact that he’s also the President isn’t necessarily relevant. Obama was the president, yet he was permitted to play the victim. Hillary Clinton is one of the most influential failed politicians in America, yet she trades in victimization like it’s her job (because it is). Actual power and influence aren’t that important to the leftist victim equation. Identity is all that matters.
Now, the positions in the hierarchy tend to change over time as the various groups struggle to be the most victimized, but cisgendered, heterosexual, white, Republican, Christian males are always at the bottom, and anyone who can squeeze themselves into the LGBT acronym always stands perched at the top.
Cisgendered women, black people, Hispanics, Muslims, etc., are in between, sometimes flipping positions depending on the news cycle. But the LGBT camp, as those entrusted with carrying forth the banner of sexual liberation, will remain forever at the pinnacle. And, arguably, at the pinnacle of the pinnacle sits the genderfluid, transgendered, genderqueer, gender-questioning, and genderless.
If Donald Trump were to join this hallowed group, it would change the political landscape in an instant.
(2) Trump would be the first female president.
As we learned from Bruce Jenner’s “Woman of the Year” award, sometimes men make the best women. Who better, then, to shatter the glass ceiling than a man? I mean, a woman.
The Left may still oppose Donna Trump for her policies and her political positions, but they’d have to admit that her presidency was worth it, in the end, because of how it inspired our daughters to believe in themselves and reach for the stars. What a story it would be: a female CEO finally breaks into the presidential boy’s club and proves once and for all that women can do whatever they set their minds to. As long as they’re men.
(3) Trump’s propensity to be a loudmouth would suddenly be viewed as admirable.
A man can’t get away with saying what he says and tweeting what he tweets, but if he were a woman, his ranting would immediately become an inspiring expression of feminine strength and confidence.
If anyone criticized him for it, he could simply respond, “Oh, you’re intimidated when a woman asserts herself? Tough luck, misogynist.”
(4) The Left would collapse in on itself like a dying star.
The phrase “it would make their heads explode” is painfully cliched and overused, but, in this case, I think it may be literally true. Identity Politics and the Victim Hierarchy are the two great weapons of the Left. Imagine what would happen if their ultimate Super Villain seized it and used it against them. Like Kryptonite, identity politics is what gives them power, but it can also destroy them (I’m not really versed in Superman mythology so this analogy may be flawed, but you get the point).
Now, I know the critical reader may, though rightly stunned by the brilliance of this strategy, still offer a few objections. Allow me to respond to them ahead of time:
(1) Objection: But Donald Trump is not a woman.
Answer: False.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
If Donald Trump says she’s a woman, she’s a woman.
The Left has made this plain. They would be committing an actual hate crime if they even so much as hinted at the idea that Donald Trump can’t be a woman, or is not quite a woman, or is any less a woman than women who were born women.
They have set the rules here and made those rules exceedingly clear.
If a man says he’s a woman, then he’s a woman. Period. End of discussion. This is science, folks. Just ask Bill Nye.
(2) Objection: But what about Trump’s family?
By this point the entire Tavern was convulsed and all trying to chip in. So I shall leave you to go and see what else the fabulous lad had in store.

Fight with humour.

Fight with ridicule.

Fight using their rules.

Fight like an old lady

And have a few bevvies first.
